Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, in association with Teagasc will be holding an information and support conference with the aim of encouraging local farmers to consider their business options both inside and outside the Farm Gate.
Many farmers are facing the increased pressures exerted by the ongoing recession, tightening purse strings and increased competition from low cost multiples. This has resulted in a shadow being cast over the long viability of traditional farming as an occupation.
The Agri Business Conference will begin the process of encouraging and empowering farmers and other rural stakeholders to look at their land through different eyes and add to their product offerings. It is hoped that the conference will encourage the attendees to network, engage with local stakeholders and ultimately create local cottage industries that will bring in new revenue by utilising their know how, land and existing resources.
Avondhu Blackwater will have information on Rural Development Programme Grants, in the areas of Agri Diversification, Agri Tourism, Business Creation and Development, Training, Skills Acquisition and Feasibility Studies.
Teagasc will have exhibitions on Forestry, Alternative Energy, Organics, Artisan Foods, Sport Horse Sector, Farm Partnerships, Agricultural Education and Agri Tourism.
Valerie Murphy, the Chief Executive of the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership states, “it is easy to forget in the times we are living in that as a community we still possess many strengths that have been built up over generations. We are also recognised world leaders in the Agri sector and this conference is about using these elements and empowering rural people to take a fresh look at what they do”
Under the Rural Development Programme the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership provides funding and support for local communities in areas such as Diversification into Non Agricultural activities, support for Business Creation and Development and the encouragement of Tourism Activities among others.
