The call is out for communities and projects to come forward who are interested in applying for a Rural Social Scheme(R.S.S.) participant.
The aim of the scheme is to provide income support for farmers and fishermen – in receipt of long-term social welfare payments – who are unable to earn enough money from within their respective professions.
The main goal of the initiative is that all work undertaken by participants will be of benefit to the local community.
Participants on the scheme will work 19.5 hours per week and the hours will be tailored in a farmer/fisherman friendly manner.
What work will be undertaken
The work to be undertaken by participants on the scheme will fall into the following broad categories:
- Maintaining and enhancing way-marked ways, agreed walks and bog roads,
- Energy conservation work for elderly and less well off;
- Village and countryside enhancement projects,Social care and care of the elderly, community care for both pre-school and after-school groups,
- Environmental maintenance work, maintenance and care-taking of community and sporting facilities;
- Projects relating to not for profit cultural and heritage centres:
- Community Administration/Clerical duties or
- Any other appropriate community project identified during the course of the scheme.
Applications are invited from potential groups proposing a project. In the event that more applications than available participants to match the projects are received they will be held in reserve.
Selecting projects
All project applications must be accompanied by a detailed plan indicating the timetable for completion of the various tasks being put forward under the application. All projects applicants must be constituted as a limited company.
