Work on the Fermoy area landscaping plans are well underway with Rathcarrig estate receiving a significant greening of its parking space.
Saturday the 11th of February saw the Irish Tree Centre undertake a significant amount of paving removal and replacement with box hedging, hornbeam and flowering trees. While the immediate impact of such works is instant, the benefits will increase as the spring draws closer and the first buds start to appear on the trees. Hopefully in time the children in the crèche will add to the planting by putting some bird feeders or bird boxes in the already semi mature trees.
Rathcarrig is one of a number of areas that applied to have planting plans of their estates undertaken in conjunction with Fermoy Tidy Towns. This work is being undertaken by a private contractor and is being funded by Avondhu Blackwater Partnership under the Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013. It is hoped that the last of these works will be completed in the coming weeks leaving residents to await the first leaves arrival in the coming months.
