Christmas Festival Week Traffic Restrictions

From Wednesday next week there will be traffic restrictions in parts of Fermoy as the build up to the Fermoy Christmas Festival gathers pace.

Wednesday 7th December will see Christmas tree lighting ceremonies at the Courthouse, Barrack Hill and the Duntahane Road junction, which will require temporary restrictions.

At 5.00pm the Christmas Tree at the Courthouse will be lit up so motorists are advised to be aware of increased numbers of people around this location from approximately 5.00pm-6.00pm

The tree at Barrack Hill will be lit at approximately 6.00pm and there will be restrictions at Shinnicks Cross with no turn into the entrance to Beechfield Estate. Motorists should expect restrictions between approximately 5.30pm and 7.15pm.

Finally the tree at the Duntahane Road by the Forge Bar will be lit at 7.15pm with restrictions on the cross on Cork Road. There will be no access to Duntahane Road, motorists please use the relief road to access all estates in the Duntahane area. Motorists should expect restrictions between 6.30pm and 8.30pm at this location.

On Thursday 8th December the Fermoy Town lights will be officially lit up at 5.00pm on Ashe Quay outside the Grand Hotel and a large crown is expected. Traffic and parking restrictions will take place from 2.00pm on the day and will affect the area around Hanley’s Shop on the main square. Abbey Street by the Avondhu Newspaper offices will also be closed at both ends with restricted access.

The Christmas Festival itself will be officially launched at the Town Park at 5.00pm on Friday 9th December so please expect larger than usual crowds around this area. On Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December the festival takes place between 12.00pm and 8.00pm please be aware of extra numbers of people in the town, around the location of the town park and restricted access to the Swimming pool area.
