Fermoy’s upcoming Summer Festival has been welcomed by Avondhu Blackwater Partnership as a further step in the establishment of Fermoy on the festival map. Last Christmas Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, the Local Action Group for Fermoy, created the idea for the Winter Wonderland Festival and the collective efforts of the businesses, clubs, organisations and people of the town ensured a wonderful outcome with over 17,000 people attending over the three day event.
Carrying on this momentum was a challenge and Fermoy has risen to it with gusto. On the 11th June there will be a series of family themed ceili’s, puppet shows, fancy dress gatherings, choir performances and a kids disco all aimed at providing a fun filled family day out. The plan is to have a similar day on July 2nd with the river and water activities being the focus of that day’s events.
Commenting on this, Sean Hegarty Chairman of Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, said this week “Fermoy is now showing that can do spirit. Last Christmas’ Wonderland Festival and the Street Festivals planned for this summer are indications of a strengthening community. We’ve taken enough knocks over recent years so its time we came through it”
Sean also had some good news regarding this Christmas;
“I’m delighted to announce that this Christmas we will stage the Winter Wonderland Festival again, Last years event was so positive and we have had so many queries asking if it would be held again, so this year we plan to make it bigger and better, more activities, more fun and more to do. Watch this space!”
