Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Aids Dromahane Village Enhancement Scheme

Avondhu Blackwater Partnership was recently delighted to be able to assist the Dromahane Development Association in a long awaited upgrade project. The roadside bordering on the church car park had become an eyesore with successive hard winters and increased traffic leaving divots and potholes in their wake. The Development Association has drafted a three year Tidy Towns Plan targeting village upkeep and renewals projects and it saw addressing this part of their village as essential.

Before and After

The Association approached Avondhu Blackwater Partnership with their ideas for upgrading this part of the village and their proposal involved the construction of two large flowerbeds, complete with shrubbery at either end of the car park to frame the space. The road and the car park were then separated by a long U shaped flowerbed and concrete walkway that acts as a barrier to the main road and as a perimeter for the car park.

With a long history of working in partnership with communities and having established themselves as a supporter of local development, Avondhu Blackwater Partnership are the often the first port of call for many projects such as this. Niall Walshe the Development Officer who oversaw the grant aid application on behalf of Avondhu Blackwater Partnership commented, “Dromahane Development Association had identified this part of the village as a key area to be addressed and knew what they wanted. But we have recently appointed Cathal o Meara a specialist in this area who is a qualified Landscape Architect and he is already working with communities who know what they want to do but do not have a plan on paper. It adds to our range of services, in that we can now actively assist communities to develop their own plans, something that in the past has often a big headache for them”.
