Mourneabbey Residents Trust Community Council are enjoying the fruits of working with Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, the Local Development Company for the Blackwater area. Avondhu Blackwater Partnership contributed 75% funding to aid in the resurfacing of the driveway to the Community Centre, which also included the creation of two new speed bumps. The Community Centre is a local resource for Mourneabbey and Burnfort and so is heavily used throughout the year.
The Mourneabbey Residents Trust Community Council have been the recipients of grant funding in the recent past from Avondhu Blackwater Partnership on this complex, having received funding for the provision of a fully surfaced walkway around the perimeter of the complex, and the subsequent installation of lighting to allow the walkway to be safely used at night.
The roadway leading up to the Community Centre was a hardcore surface and had fallen into very poor repair, with the effects of two hard winters leaving potholes and divots. The driveway did a disservice to the excellent facilities that the Mourneabbey Residents Trust Community Council have created and it was obvious that for practical as well as asthetic reasons, the completion of this final piece of the jigsaw was required.
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Development Officer David Foley commented “we were delighted to be able to lend assistance to the Mourneabbey Residents Trust Community Council. The reason that Avondhu Blackwater Partnership are here is to improve the local community and the local landscape in any way we can and the Mourneabbey project was a perfect example of the kind of assistance we can offer”.
