Avondhu Blackwater Partnership have commenced a new door to door bus service from the Buttevant, Doneraile and Killavullen areas to Mallow town on Sunday evenings.
The bus commences collections in the areas above at 7.00 pm with the bookings received determining the route each night. The bus typically arrives in Mallow by 7.45 pm. Currently there is one return service at 9.45 pm which is very popular with people returning from Bingo in Mallow Youth Centre.
There are plans to introduce a return service at approx 12 midnight if there is enough interest from residents in the areas of Buttevant, Doneraile and Killavullen.
Why use the service?
The Evening Service allows the passengers to enjoy wonderful night of socialising in the pubs and restaurants of Mallow without having to worry about having a glass of wine or a pint, and it also allows savings on the ever increasing cost of fuel.
Damien Tobin, Transport Coordinator with Avondhu Blackwater Partnership is delighted with the response to the new service. “28 people of all ages used the service last Sunday which we are thrilled about. It proves that there is a real demand for people to get out and socialise in Mallow and use low cost transport if available. The bus can link you to the many excellent restaurants and pubs in Mallow as well as Bingo, the cinema or simply use the service to visit a friend and be dropped home safely later.”
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership already run a highly successful rural transport scheme which operates in the Fermoy, Mallow and Blarney areas and the commencement of evening services is a response to demand for night time rural transport.
