These meetings will also highlight and identify the key issues and concerns for each community. This is an ideal opportunity for communities to find out what funding is available and how best to apply and secure it.
Recently Avondhu Blackwater funded a Village Enhancement Project at Ballyhooly Sheltered Housing (via Rural Development Programme funding) and the Racing Home for Easter Festival 2010 in Mallow (via Local and Community Development Programme). Both projects are hugely successful and have benefited enormously from the grants received.
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership also delivers the Rural Transport programme which operates over 40 public transport services encompassing over 45 rural villages and the numerous townlands in the rural hinterlands of Mallow, Fermoy and Blarney.
Blackwater Community Connect, which has over 550 participants, offers a Befriending Telephone Service and a Handyman Service to older and vulnerable people who may live in rural and remote areas. The programme has just begun its “First Steps to IT for Senior Citizens” where participants will learn basic computing skills, how to use e-mail, search the Internet, pay motor tax on-line, book flights etc.
Introduced by the Minister for Family Protection, Eamon O’Cuiv T.D., our Rural Social Scheme aims of to provide income support for farmers and fishermen, in receipt of long-term social welfare payments and who are unable to earn enough money from within their respective professions. Participants on the scheme work 19.5 hours per week and the hours will be tailored in a farmer/fisherman friendly manner. Many of our communities benefit from the hard work carried out by our Rural Social Scheme Participants.
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Ltd is the integrated LEADER Partnership Company whose core responsibility is the delivery of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 (RDP), the Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP), Rural transport Network (RDP), Community Services Programme and the Rural Social Scheme (RSS) in North East County Cork.
