National Spring Clean is Ireland’s most popular, well recognised and successful anti-litter initiative. Now in its 12th year, the campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for litter, by actually conducting clean-ups in their own local environment. This years National Spring Clean Initiative was launched by Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, Fermoy Tidy Towns and An Taisce.
This year, up to 15 areas in Fermoy actively participated in National Spring Clean 2010. With large amounts of litter being collected and disposed by volunteers, the 3 groups were amazed with the overwhelming commitment from the community groups that took part. Valerie Murphy CEO Avondhu Blackwater Partnership commented “that the success of the anti-litter initiative is a sign of the pride that the people of Fermoy have for their respective areas and of the awareness of the environmental issues we face”.
Presenting the awards for National Spring Clean were the newly appointed Mayor of Fermoy, Cllr Pa O’Driscoll, Chairman of Fermoy Tidy Towns, Cllr Noel McCarthy and board members of Avondhu Blackwater Partnership.
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership would like to thank all those involved in National Spring Clean 2010 and would like to extend that thanks to The Wagon Tavern for the venue and the food.
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership are fully committed to the creation of an overall greener lifestyle in the local community and actively raising awareness around environmental issues such as waste management, water pollution, energy conservation and sustainable living.
